¤ Christian Aid Week 2015
Needham Market generously donated almost £3500 to Christian Aid in 2015 - thank you very much. This was several hundred pounds more than in 2014. Your donations are very much appreciated. For more information on the work of Christian Aid, or to donate on-line click here to visit their website.
¤ Raising the Roof
It may seem cliched that a church has a roof appeal ... but what a roof! Some may marvel at this medieval marvel, a work of genius on the part of the master carpenter who built it. A roof that covers a single large internal space without pillars to disrupt it. Notable architectural chronicler, Sir Niklaus Pevsner, had much to say about it. If the construction does not appeal to you, then think of the single large space beneath that can be used by the whole community of Needham Market. This is the real aim, to preserve this rich community resource and further develop it to be more useful to our town.
Yes - we want to save an architectural landmark, it is Grade 1 listed with good reason! Our real aim is to be here in another 800 years' time to serve the community still.
Our situation has recently been covered by the EADT and ITV Anglia News which give an overview of the problem. Baronees Ros Scott has graciously agreed to support us and be the Patron of our roof appeal. A series of events are planned in the year ahead to help us raise the estimated £250,000 that is needed for specialist repairs to the roof timbers. We have some money already which will be used towards a full detailed survey to help us and the specialists required get a really accurate picture of what needs be done.
Our fund raising launch weekend in June raised £10,000 - thank you to everyone who helped give us a fantastic start, and to everyone who came to find out about the Church. Other events are coming soon ... mark your diaries for a fund raising dinner and Auction of Promises on 21st November, where you could bid for a tour of the Houses of Parliament, amongst others.
Please use our BT MyDonate page if you would like to contribute to this work. Gifts may also be given directly via the wall safe just inside the Church doors to the left or via The Rectory, 10 Meadow View, Needham Market, IP6 8RH.
¤ Produce Stalls
Outside the church, the first Saturday of each month between April and October we have a stall which sells local produce, plants, books, and many cakes, scones, jams etc. Please do help support the monthly stalls which are very popular and there is always more demand than the quantity of cakes! Last year these stalls alone raised more than £1000 for church funds.
¤ Lent Soup Lunch
This event is part of our Charitable giving as all the money raised is donated to St Edmundsbury & Ipswich link Diocese in Kagera in aid of the Pastors Children's Fund.
